Colin Merrin was born in London and studied at Maidstone College of Art, Kingston University and the University of London, Institute of Education. Primarily a landscape and figurative painter, he strongly believes the process of making paintings to be at least as important as what they represent. Whilst based in London, the urban landscape dominated his work. Nevertheless since 2007 he has lived and worked in Sussex and therefore recent paintings have reflected more rural themes. He was elected an associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 2009.
